Mullens & Maydwell Competition

Albuhera Company are proud to report that the winners of the Mullens competition this year is Felbridge Detachment. Well done to Sgt Matt Lowes his staff and Cadets for winning the Trophy.

Maydwell Competition was won by Chertsey Detachment in C Company followed close by Lingfield Detachment.

This is what The Detachment Commander has to say

2On our annual camp 2007 my Detachment won the Mullens Trophy. This is the trophy awarded to the best detachment of the year. After winning the trophy with Lingfield detachment 3 times as a cadet and now being
an adult instructor at Felbridge (which also had a good Mullens record), I was determined to make this my goal. However this was pretty much out of my hands as the points are only gained by the cadet’s involvement and achievements. All Sergeant Kinnear (my 2nd in command) and I could do was try to ensure the cadets were well trained and pointed in the right direction, it was then up to the cadets to work with us and each other to achieve this.  This they did.

The feeling I had on the county’s final parade when the battalion commander announced ‘and the Mullens trophy 2007 goes to …..Felbridge’ could be compared to that of a football manager when his team wins the premiership trophy or European cup. A split second after the Battalion Commander finished the word ‘Felbridge’ the room erupted with my 15 cadets present, myself and Sergeant Kinnear yelling for joy, the rest of those present (about 350 people) sat still and quiet. My senior cadet Lance Corporal Clarke proudly marched up, saluted the Battalion Commander and received the trophy.

The pride and thanks I have for my cadets cannot be described. Their hard work, dedication and loyalty throughout the year have turned my dream and theirs into reality.

Now as a detachment we have to start thinking about next year which is just a case of repeating what happened this year!
