Joining up as an Adult Instructor

Opportunities currently exist for dedicated and responsible Adult Leaders preferably between the ages of 21 and 35. The upper age limit for joining is currently 50 years.

There is no such thing as the typical Adult Leader, they come from all walks of life and each one brings with them enthusiasm, energy, leadership and the will to motivate young people to achieve their goals.

Adult Leaders have both curiosity and initiative in equal measures, possess a willingness to have a go, and are prepared to learn from both experience and from a series of structured training courses.

What will I have to do?

As an Adult Leader within the Army Cadet Force, your major responsibility will be to attend your Detachment two nights a week and conduct training as laid down by the Detachment Commander.

The lessons you will be required to train cadets in are taken from the Army Proficiency Certificate syllabus and typically you would begin by training the new recruits into the Detachment.

How much time does it take up?

In addition to the two nights a week, Training Weekends are held roughly once per month and Adult Leaders are required to conduct the activities. Obviously we would never ask you to do anything you were not confident at or trained in!

Each year the County travels to Annual Camp and again Adult Leaders are required to help organise and carry out the activities for the two week duration. Many employers will allow Adult Leaders an extra week's leave to attend this event but you would need to check with your own employer for confirmation.

Who trains me?

Adult Leaders are trained by more senior Adult Leaders as well as by learning from their own experiences within the Army Cadet Force.

Adult Leaders attend a basic two week initial training course within their first 18 months of appointment which gives them all of the basic knowledge they need to carry out the task. This is then followed up by two one-week courses held at the Cadet Training Centre, Frimley Park.

What does it cost me?

It doesn't cost you a penny to get involved. Adult Leaders are paid for up to 20 training days per year as well as their travel costs to and from their Detachment locations. Further details will be provided when you join. All the uniform and equipment that you need will be issued to you on loan.

So the only thing it will really cost you is time - but the rewards are plenty!
